Hip Kitty hosts Hip Hop event
The Hip Kitty in The Packing House became the center of the hip-hop world on Tuesday, hosting a kick-off event to announce the lineup for the popular “Rock the Bells” traveling festival.
A press conference with several media outlets was held in the afternoon, followed by a red carpet roll out for the hip-hop stars, some of whom performed later that evening.
Organized by Pomona-based promoter Guerrilla Union, the event featured performances by Wale, Jay Electronica, Murs, Supernatural, Jrocc, DJ Rocky Rock, Raekwon and De La Soul. (story continues below)

A reunited A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Nas and Mos Def will headline the festival, which will kick off on July 19 in Chicago. The festival will make a stop in Los Angeles on August 9.
In previous years, Rock the Bells organizers orchestrated the reunion of bands such as the Wu Tang Clan and Rage Against the Machine. The festival is now in its 6th year.
Hip Kitty owner Nancy Tessier said the event was a good way to showcase The Packing House and draw in new visitors to Claremont.
