WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23
A local teen was taken to the hospital after being assaulted while in an alleyway in the Village. The incident occurred behind the CK Café, 109 Yale Ave., around 4 p.m.
The suspect approached the 18-year-old victim and asked where he was from and how old he was. When the victim ignored the comments, the suspect said: “You shouldn’t be hanging out here.”
“Why not?” the victim responded.
The suspect then began punching the victim in the face until the victim fell on the ground. The assailant continued to punch the teen in the face while the teen lay on the ground until a witness intervened. The suspect fled the scene on foot.
The victim was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital. He was bleeding heavily from a cut on his lower lip, had abrasions on his cheek and a large bump behind his ear.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, around 30, with dark hair and dark eyes, wearing a black hat. An area search of the suspect was unsuccessful.

SATURDAY, APRIL 26
Local transient Donald Smedley, 46, was arrested twice throughout the day for public intoxication. The first incident occurred outside of the Village Grille, 148 Yale Ave., around 9:23 a.m.

A customer at the restaurant called police claiming that Mr. Smedley was harassing customers, asking for food and money. When an officer arrived, he asked Mr. Smedley to stand up but, when he did, the officer had to catch him from falling over. He was arrested for public intoxication and released later that day on a citation.
Around 11:36 p.m., Mr. Smedley was spotted by a police officer stumbling through a parking lot, swinging his arms from side to side and was unable to maintain his balance. Mr. Smedley told the officer that he spent the entire afternoon and night drinking beer.
He was arrested again for public intoxication and held at Claremont jail until he appeared in court on Tuesday.

MONDAY, APRIL 28
Unknown burglars entered an athletic office at Claremont High School and stole a computer hard drive and an iPod. The incident occurred between April 25 and 28.
The subjects entered the athletic office through an unlocked window in the boy’s locker room and left the office through the front door. The stolen goods are valued at approximately $1020 dollars. Police Lieutenant Shelly Vander Veen said some fingerprints had been found at the scene and are currently being processed.
