Stunned

Dear Editor:

I have read with shock and sadness the accounts of the incident that occurred at 42nd Street Bagel in the Village on April 1.  Reading both the letter from the 74-year-old woman giving her firsthand account and then reading the “apology” from the bagel shop left me stunned.  I think the owner and management of 42nd Street Bagel need to issue a REAL APOLOGY to this 74-year-old woman.  From the accounts I have read of the incident it is painfully apparent that she was attacked for no reason other than the color of her skin.  It was not only allowed to happen in their store but the attacker was treated with respect while the victim was simply humiliated.  It was handled abominably by management at the time and again by the owner when this public “apology” was sent to the COURIER.  How about just admitting you were wrong in not stopping it as it was taking place and admitting it was an ugly and uncalled for attack on an innocent woman 74 year old who was just waiting for her bagel?

42nd Street Bagel should consider themselves lucky that I was not a customer in their store that day because if I had witnessed such an appalling scene the bagels no doubt would have been flying....
