Running in Claremont

Dear Editor:

In regards to the letter written by Bill Norin last Wednesday (September 22nd) about the cross country team running despite the recent heat, the cross country team would like to clarify the subject.

Firstly, the heat is a condition that we must face come time to race, and thus, we must be duly prepared for it. The only way to become acclimated to running in the heat is to run in the heat.

Secondly, all the members of cross country are well aware of all the necessities to running in any weather conditions, especially the preparation. We are all properly hydrated, and know when we become insufficiently hydrated to continue the workout.

And finally, the hard work and discipline that we display have resulted in the immense growth and success of our team. The coaching staff has played a major part in the team’s recent success and they, as qualified professionals that are duly aware of our limits, are equally aware of the heat and its effects. I am sure that the team and coaches appreciate your concern, but we are doing what we love to do, with all the knowledge and precaution necessary.

Sincerely,
Claremont Boys Cross Country Team
