Dolores “Dodie” Gomez
Inventory control specialist, devoted grandmother

The grandchildren of Dolores “Dodie” Gomez called her “Glam-Ma,” an affectionate play on words referring to the glamorous woman that she was. Whether attending one of their sporting events, dance recitals or other activities, she always arrived in classy apparel.

“I don’t think she ever had a pair of tennis shoes,” said her daughter-in-law, Kim Gomez.

And though struggling with pulmonary fibrosis, which made it difficult for her to breathe, she still attended all of their activities, ready to support and applaud her special, young family members as they displayed their talents.

Ms. Gomez, a resident of Phillips Ranch, died on February 15, 2008 at the age of 69 at the Chino Valley Medical Center.

Born on July 7, 1938 in New Mexico, Ms. Gomez spent her childhood and youth in Montebello, where she graduated from Garfield High School. After marriage, she moved to La Habra and, later, to Phillips Ranch.

For more than 30 years, she worked for Unified Grocers in the City of Commerce, serving as an inventory control specialist.

A woman who loved to laugh, Ms. Gomez had numerous friends from places far and wide. She was very involved in a Thursday morning church group at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs and attended Sunday services at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills. She also served on the Women’s Auxiliary Board for Hillview Acres, assisting with the organization’s annual events, such as its tea and garage sale.

A favorite activity of Ms. Gomez, in addition to “anything that had to do with the grandkids,” said her daughter-in-law, was the occasional opportunity she had to care for her “grand-doggies” when her son and daughter-in-law were away.

“This was a special thing she always wanted to do,” said her daughter-in-law, the owner of two Samoyed dogs beloved by Ms. Gomez.

One characteristic that Ms. Gomez was known for was her promptness.

“She was always on time,” said her daughter-in-law.

“Her laugh, her thoughtful love and her unshakable endurance will be engraved in our hearts forever,” wrote the family in a remembrance.

Ms. Gomez is survived by her son, Bill Trillo of Whittier; by her sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Kim Gomez of Claremont and Paul and Stephanie Gomez of Laguna Nigel; by her brother and sister-in-law, Gil and Irma Chavez of Chino Hills; by her best friends, Vicki and Glen Dinger of Chino Hills; and by her grandchildren, Lauren, Christina, Sarah, Garrett, Sage, Dakota, Davia and Dalila.

A memorial service for Ms. Gomez was held on February 21, 2008 at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs in Diamond Bar.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hillview Acres Women’s Auxiliary, c/o Adella Bardon, Treasurer, 1375 Cherry Hill Way, Chino Hills, CA 91709.
