David Kamm
Educational counselor, administrator Former Claremont resident David E. Kamm died unexpectedly at his home in Hopewell Township, New Jersey on February 29, 2008 at the age of 57. Having grown up in Claremont, he had lived in New Jersey for over 20 years. Born to Walter and Madge Kamm in Pomona on October 6, 1950, Mr. Kamm attended elementary school in Pomona and Claremont. In 1968, he graduated from Claremont High School where he was active in cross country running, art and music. Following high school graduation, Mr. Kamm received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in counseling from the University of California, Los Angeles. Later in life, he completed a PhD in counseling. For more than 30 years, Mr. Kamm worked as an educational counselor and administrator. He retired in 2005 after 15 years in the West Windsor Plainsboro Regional School District in New Jersey as a counselor at High School South. He also maintained a private practice as a counselor and college advisor. Additionally, Mr. Kamm had a successful career with the US Army Reserves and attained the rank of lieutenant colonel prior to his retirement. He served in a number of positions in the Army Medical Services Corps and Civil Affairs assignments and was mobilized in support of Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. A music lover, Mr. Kamm was an accomplished singer and instrumentalist, playing both guitar and banjo. In his youth, he enjoyed hiking and exploring in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and spent one summer hiking the Pacific Crest Trial. Mr. Kamm is survived by his sister, Kathi Kamm of Claremont; and by his cousins, Richard and Joan Kuhwarth and Jack and Carol Kuhwarth of Grass Valley. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on April 12, 2008 at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Cranbury, New Jersey. A private service will be held in California.
