Florence Hatt
Devoted church member, community volunteer

Longtime Claremont resident Florence “Flossy” Hatt died on April 8, 2008 at the age of 88. Ms. Hatt had lived in Claremont for 34 years.

Originally from Sioux City, Iowa, where she was born in 1925, Ms. Hatt moved from Iowa to California with her husband, Charles Hatt. After 44 years of marriage, Mr. Hatt died in 1996.

Ms. Hatt raised 4 children and was very active as a volunteer with the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and Our Lady of the Assumption Church, where she had been a member for 56 years. For a time, she also worked as a dental assistant and a retail associate.

Her son, John Hatt, described his mother as a kind and loving person, noting, however, that she certainly never hesitated to speak her mind.

“You always knew where she stood,” he said.

Ms. Hatt is survived by her children, James Hatt of Miramar, Daniel Hatt of Del Mar, Mary Beth Hatt of Laguna Niguel and John Hatt of Riverside; by her grandchildren, Nick and Dylan; by her sister, Lois Klemens; and by her daughters-in-law, Martha and Elizabeth.

Services were held and a rosary was performed on April 14, 2008 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Claremont. Ms. Hatt was interred at Oak Park Cemetery.
