Robert London
Rotarian, school plant supervisor

An active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Claremont for many years and a 35-year resident of Upland, Robert Cornelius London died April 27, 2009 at Jennersville Regional Hospital in West Grove, Pennsylvania where he had made his home since 2007. He was 89 years of age.

Mr. London, the son of Paul and Martha Black London, was born on October 10, 1919 in Punxatawney, Pennsylvania. He grew up in and graduated from high school in Angola, Indiana.

Serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II, Mr. London was a Lieutenant, JG. He served aboard USN LST493, which was involved in the noted D-Day Invasion of 5 beaches—Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword, on Normandy in June of 1944.

During his years in the Claremont area, Mr. London was a plant manager for Claremont McKenna College in the early 1970s. He was also associated with the Desert Sun School in Idyllwild, and was plant supervisor for the Clairbourn School in San Marino at the time of his retirement in 2000.

In addition to his activities with the church, Mr. London was a member of the Claremont Rotary for a number of years. He enjoyed watching college basketball on television and watching the soccer games of his son, grandson and granddaughter.

Mr.London was predeceased by a son, Ben Campbell London. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Campbell London of West Grove, Pennsylvania; by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Michelle London of West Grove, and by his grandchildren, Joshua and Hayley London.

A dinner celebrating the life of Mr. London is being held tonight, Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Heartfeld Country Club near West Grove, Pennsylvania.
