More than 1800 residents are still without power after significant winds blew through town last night. Edison crews are currently assessing damage and working to restore power which has been out since roughly 3 a.m.
Hardest hit are neighborhoods in the Pilgrim Place area and north of Foothill, west of Indian Hill Boulevard to Towne Avenue.
In less than 24 hours, Claremont may have a new city manager. A contract with current Assistant City Manager Tony Ramos will be reviewed in a special open session of the Claremont City Council Wednesday evening.
For Maggie Tupman, a Claremont
resident of 17 years, knitting has
become part of her daily regimen.
She picks up a needle and yarn during 10-
minute breaks at work, or while listening
to her favorite music, and even during
hockey games on television.
Ms. Tupman is finding special meaning beyond the
comforts of her normal routine as bundles of her knitted
creations make their way to Iraq and Afghanistan
this holiday season.

meeting.
The announcement comes just 12 days after City
Manager Jeff Parker announced his resignation from
the city of Claremont. Mr. Parker will leave to become
city manager of Tustin. His last day is December
26.

Steven Gonzalez
has been appointed to
the state of Washington
Supreme Court, becoming the
second Hispanic justice to
serve on the state’s high court.
Mr. Gonzalez, a Superior
Court judge in King County,
Washington, will begin his
new role this January.
A couple traveling through Claremont Tuesday afternoon were arrested after being stopped for grand theft auto. Officers ran a vehicle license plate check on a silver Ford Taurus near Base Line Road and Kemper Avenue just after 3 p.m. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Costa Mesa. Claremont Police stopped the car and arrested Christopher Bridwell, 36, above, of Aliso Viejo for grand theft auto. Mr. Bridwell’s passenger, Marjorie Saylor, 29, of Upland, was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Both are currently being held at the Claremont city jail. Just one week after announcing its intent to promote current Assistant City Manager Tony Ramos, the Claremont City Council approved a city managerâ??s contract with Mr. Ramos last night in a special closed meeting.
The Claremont City Council will discuss the appointment of Assistant City Manager Tony Ramos as City Manager tonight at 6 p.m. in closed session. The public has an opportunity to address the council. Residents wishing to share remarks should arrive promptly at 6 p.m.

The document states that Mr. Ramos had failed
to make his bankruptcy payments in the amount of

As of Tuesday, Mr. Ramos had paid $3528 of
his outstanding balance of $8500.
