The three suspects—Earl Sisson, 22, from Lakewood, Alexander Carter, 24, from Long Beach and Jayvonta Lewis, 24, from Long Beach were arrested and held at the Claremont city jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, They were due to appear in Pomona Court on Wednesday, December 28.
On December 24 at 1:15 a.m., a suspect entered the Shell Gas Station at 747 S. Indian Hill Blvd., approached the clerk in the security booth and displayed a knife. The suspect demanded money from the clerk, but the clerk refused.

Locals are mourning the unexpected death of Bill Vaskis, former Claremont High School world history teacher. Mr. Vaskis died Wednesday, December 21 at Mt. San Antonio Gardens.
Mr. Vaskis was well-known in Claremont for his sometimes unorthodox teaching style, his love of the outdoors and music, and his political activism. Mr. Vaskis retired from teaching in 2000 after 32 years with the Claremont Unified School District.

The Claremont Post Office is looking a little worse for the wear. For some time now, the drought has taken its toll on the City of Trees. However, seeing nature’s crushing effect on a governmental building, seemingly exacerbated by lack of maintenance, has left some residents scratching their heads.
Claremont police arrested Colton resident Daniel Negrete, 18, for commercial burglary after his involvement in incidents at Kazama Sushi and Casa Moreno in Claremont last week. Mr. Negrete later posted bond and was released. Detectives are currently working to locate the other three suspects in this case.
With the nomination period closed for the Claremont City Council election, eight candidates have qualified and will vie for two open seats this March.

Jason Procsal would most likely still be on the street if it weren’t for CHAP. He was one of the lucky ones—he was quickly admitted into the program and given an opportunity to continue school while he was given shelter. Now he’s a college graduate and already looking forward to grad school.
The Architectural Commission pored over the site plans for the new location of Renwick House on November 30. The house is scheduled to be moved across the street to make room for the Pomona College Museum of Art.
One of Em Bohlka’s many defining qualities was her willingness to go out of her way to help people. It was a trait recounted again and again by friends and family who knew her best. Ms. Bohlka was one of the 36 people who lost their lives in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire on December 2. She was remembered as a kind, thoughtful and hilarious soul who was just embarking on a new chapter in her life.
