Major child pornography predator arrested by Claremont police

After an extensive investigation and hunt for a child sex predator, Claremont Police Detectives arrested 32-year-old Glen James Anderson on January 31 for possession of child pornography and sex acts with a minor.

The investigation began in 2015, when Claremont police officers responded to a call regarding a 15-year-old female student seen leaving a school campus with an adult male. She was later seen being dropped off by the same man.

The man left prior to the police being called, but officers were able to speak with the 15-year-old student and learned that the student had left the campus with a man she had met on the Internet.

Detectives later examined the student’s cell phone and discovered communication between the 15-year-old and Mr. Anderson discussing sex acts that had taken place between the two of them. Detectives wrote a series of search warrants and were able to identify a possible suspect, according to a police bulletin distributed by the Claremont Police Department.

In October 2015, a search warrant was served at Mr. Anderson’s residence in West Hills. He was arrested and, during a search of his room, several phones, computers and electronic storage devices were seized. Mr. Anderson was transported to the Claremont jail where he was booked. He was later released after posting bail.

Detectives then began the lengthy process of examining all of Mr. Anderson’s phones, computers and electronic storage devices that were seized during the search warrant. The process took an extended period of time due to Mr. Anderson having more than 10 terabytes worth of data on these devices.

According to the Apple Store, assuming that the average size photo is 500K, then a one terabyte hard drive will hold around two million photographs. Alternatively, a one terabyte drive could store 1000 hours of video, 310,000 photographs and 500 hours of movies. Mr. Anderson’s pornography collection was 10 times that amount.

Claremont police officers say Mr. Anderson had one of the largest collections of pornography and child pornography that both Claremont detectives and assisting LASD detectives had encountered in their careers, according to Sgt. David Hardin of the Claremont Police Department.

During the investigation, Claremont detectives uncovered a possible second victim while examining Mr. Anderson’s phone. This new information led detectives to the city of Long Beach, where they located a second victim—a 13-year-old junior high student—and detectives learned she had also had a sexual relationship with Mr. Anderson.

The investigation was submitted to the District Attorney’s office for review and the DA filed nine felony counts against Mr. Anderson for sex acts with minors and possession of child pornography. A warrant was issued for Mr. Anderson’s arrest and, for the last four months, detectives have been on the hunt for Mr. Anderson.

On January 31, Claremont police detectives located Mr. Anderson in West Hollywood and he was arrested. He is currently in custody, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for February 15. Mr. Anderson is being held on $390,000 bail. If convicted on all charges, he could face more than 30 years in state prison.
