Claremont Woman’s Club luncheon celebrates scholarship recipients

The Claremont Woman’s Club awarded five high school students each $1,000 scholarships at their end-of-year luncheon on Wednesday at the club located at 343 W. 12th St.

With the 100-year anniversary of the Claremont Woman’s Club approaching in 2019, the nonprofit decided to turn to Claremont’s High School seniors for clever ideas to keep the organization around for another millennium. The application consisted of an essay question asking students to explain some of their ideas for the woman’s club to sustain another 100 years.

Club President Jory Rickman said the nonprofit received more than 40 applications, the most the organization has ever received.

The five winning CHS students include: Jack Kruze, a water polo player for the Pack; Mikayla Platt, a color guard member and Baldy View honoree; Xiucoatl Mejia, creator of the Alliance Club at CHS; Franchesca Ho and Coleman Seery.

Students were considered for the scholarship if they were current high school seniors and attended either CHS, San Antonio High School or a Claremont  private high schools.
