Updated: Two adults, one juvenile arrested for home burglary
Claremont police arrested three suspected burglars, including one juvenile, Wednesday morning.
Just before 10 a.m., a neighbor called police after seeing an unfamiliar car parked on the 1000 block of Loop Branch, north of Mt. Baldy Road and east of Padua Avenue, police said. An officer arrived and contacted the driver of the car, later identified as 19-year-old Kiara Lewis-Clark of Compton, who had a police scanner and was talking on a cell phone.
While speaking with Ms. Lewis-Clark, the officer believed a residential burglary was in progress and radioed for backup, police said. After other officers arrived, it was determined that a residential burglary had occurred in the neighborhood, with two additional suspects, 18-year-old Vernon Harvey of Carson and a 17-year-old boy, seen running from the home and into a nearby hillside.
A search for the duo began, which included assistance from an Ontario Police Department helicopter. Mr. Harvey and the teen were eventually located hiding in thick brush on steep hillside nearby, police said.
Ms. Lewis-Clark and Mr. Harvey were arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and child endangerment and are being held on $100,000 bail, police said. The teen was released to his parents.
Police looking for two suspects in Foothill commercial burglaries
On September 4 at approximately 4:11 a.m., the owner of Audacious Nails, 601 E. Foothill Blvd., received an alarm activation from the alarm company.
The owner responded and arrived to find the front window smashed. The suspects removed the cash drawer; however, it was empty. There was no known property loss.
Another commercial burglary was also discovered at Baskin-Robbins, located at 973 W. Foothill Blvd. The front window was also smashed and there was no known property loss. Claremont police later received information from both the Pomona and La Verne police departments that they had similar commercial burglaries within their cities.
Video surveillance captured the suspects and a possible vehicle. The two suspects were described as a black male, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and the other suspect was a Hispanic male, wearing a dark-colored jacket with a white stripe and blue tennis shoes. The vehicle was described as a white four-door Kia with tinted windows.
