Pedestrian killed in Wednesday morning hit and run
Claremont police are investigating a fatal hit and run collision early Wednesday morning that left a pedestrian dead.
Officers responded to the 1600 block of Towne Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. after LA County Fire initially found the victim lying in the road, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. LA County Fire rendered aid, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
The victim was later identifed by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office as 50-year-old James Radzik.
The driver of the vehicle fled the location without rendering aid or notifying emergency personnel, police said. There is no suspect information, but police said the car should have front-end damage and damage to the windshield.
Officers are checking with nearby residents to see if they have any surveillance or camera footage that may have captured the crash.
Towne Avenue north of Foothill Boulevard was reopened later Wednesday morning after being closed for a few hours following the incident.
