Claremont police stop drivers heading north on Mount Baldy Road while an Angeles National Forest fire crew passes on the left on Friday evening north of Claremont. A fire was reported at 5:40 p.m. in the canyon just below the town of Mt. Baldy. According to the National Situational Awareness fire map, the blaze started on private land, and is called the Sunset Fire.
“Crews responded en masse to ‘blitz’ this fire quickly in an effort to prevent it from growing beyond local resource capabilities. Our response includes multiple fire engines, hand crews, 3 water dropping helicopters, command staff and a bulldozer team,” Los Angeles County Fire Public Information Office announced on its official Twitter feed.
In the latest update, fire officials report that through a combined effort from LA County Fire and Angeles National Forest Fire, the Sunset fire has been stopped but crews will remain on scene to mop up hot spots.
