After living 68 of her 91 years in Claremont, Margaret Siler Faust died August 17 from a heart attack.
She was born in Tientsin, China, where her parents were missionaries. Her first language was Chinese. The youngest of five children, her family returned to the US in 1928 when she was 2 years old. She grew up in Oak Park, Illinois.
Her mother earned a college degree, eventually becoming a physician at a time when very few women went to medical school.
Muriel Farritor, 90, died August 24 at her Claremont home after a long battle with cancer. A memorial service is set for 11 a.m., September 1, at Todd Memorial Chapel, 325 N. Indian Hill Blvd., Claremont. The public is invited to attend to celebrate her life and contributions to Claremont. The reception will be at 1 p.m. at 640 Occidental Dr., Claremont, following the service. Ms. Farritor’s full obituary will follow in a future edition of the COURIER.
Gordon Klene Douglass died peacefully at home on August 1, 2017 at the age of 90 after a brief illness.
Dr. Douglass was born in Long Beach, California to Wilbur and Lorine Klene Douglass. He was active in church and scouting as a youth, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1944 and entered military service during World War II.
Arthur E. Hacker, a resident of Claremont since 1978, has died after a long illness.
Art grew up in Glenview, Illinois. He graduated from Yale University with both a bachelor’s degree and a master of architecture degree. In 1970, he served as National Student Chairman for the first American Institute of Architects program dedicated to environmental issues. Mr. Hacker later served as editor of the Journal of Architectural Education.
