Audrey Grace Venegas, (nee) Peterson
Beloved daughter, wife, mother, Claremont High, Pomona College grad
Audrey Grace Peterson, a Claremont High and Pomona College graduate, died October 12 after fighting rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, for the past three years. She was 33.
She was born on May 18, 1985 in Fontana, the second of four children of Tom and Tani Peterson.
Young Audrey was baptized while a “Missionette” at Calvary Church in Ontario. She attended Calvary Christian School, and after the family moved to Claremont in 1997, Sumner Elementary, El Roble Intermediate School and Claremont High.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Pomona College and her master’s in child development from California State University, San Bernardino.
In 2010 she married Alex Venegas, and in 2012 the couple welcomed their daughter, Aaliyah.
Ms. Peterson worked for the past 11 years as a board certified behavior analyst for Applied Behavior Consultants, where she taught children with autism.
“To know our amazing Audrey Grace was to love her for her warm, sweet and gentle spirit,” her family shared. “She was loving, selfless, kind, thoughtful, caring, compassionate, intuitive, helpful, energetic, generous, adventurous, tenacious, hardworking and blessed with good old-fashioned common sense. She will be sorely missed by her family and by all who knew her.”
She is survived by her parents, Tom and Tani Peterson; her loving husband, Alex Venegas; her beloved daughter, Aaliyah; Alex’s parents, Rodolfo and Maria Lilia Venegas; her siblings, Winnie, Gordon and Gigi; Alex’s brother, Rudy, and sister, Michelle; aunts, Joyce Jemison, Ayo Mseka (Leonard), Gemina Archer-Davies (Samuel); cousins, Kevin, Tracy, Chikondi, Dayo, Samantha, Amira and many nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. this Saturday, November 3 at Purpose Church, 601 N. Garey Ave., Pomona. The family invites attendees to join them for a reception in the H building immediately following the service.
