In 2016, the police station ad hoc committee made a recommendation to the city council to build a new $25-million police station. The committee, however, has yet to make a recommendation on how to finance the cost.
In January, the city presented two options to the committee. The first was a general obligation (GO) bond. Just like the school bond that was passed in November, GO bonds would be serviced with taxes collected based on a property’s assessed value.
There were plenty of signs held high in the air as several hundred people showed up at Memorial Park Sunday, February 26, to join the “We the people in Solidarity” rally protesting the Muslim ban, the wall with Mexico and other action by the Trump administration. The two-hour event featured speakers from Claremont and the surrounding communities and focused on getting people to raise their voices against human rights issues.
I stand in the Indian train station, alone for a moment while being jostled by the crowds of people all intent on being somewhere else at that very same moment. Now I am surrounded by bags and cases.
