On Tuesday, July14 the Claremont Police Department called in the cavalry after a Pomona man suspected of auto theft took off running and remained at large for more than an hour. CPD officers got curious after seeing a truck parked near Bonita and Towne Avenues at 1 p.m. They ran the plates of the 2003 Black Chevrolet Silverado and found it was reported stolen July 12 out of San Bernardino County.
On Tuesday, June 30 Claremont cops had a red letter afternoon when they busted two alleged car and identity thieves at Crystal Place and La Verne Avenue. CPD came into contact with Pomona residents Daniel Maturino, 27, and Skaiann Guzman, 19, at about 5:30 p.m. Police say Mr. Maturino was driving a 2019 Hyundai Sonata that had been reported stolen out of Covina, and Mr. Guzman was piloting a hot black Ford Explorer.
On Tuesday, June 23 one has to credit Derrick Holland for his dogged criminal persistence. Last week, the 59-year-old Pomonan was arrested for commercial burglary after allegedly loading up a shopping cart with booze at Vons on Base Line Road about 10:30 a.m. and pushing it out the door without paying. This week, Mr. Holland broke the first rule of criminality when he returned to the scene of the (alleged) crime.
