On Saturday, November 10 Claremont McKenna College rally took a strange turn when a car became engulfed in flames. As part of the rally—which took place at the campus apartments at 671 E. 6th Street—college students purchased a salvaged vehicle with the purpose of allowing students to vandalize and destroy the vehicle, according to Lt. A Claremont Unified School District employee found himself in the right place at the right time Wednesday afternoon, helping to take down 2 suspects wanted for a theft at El Roble earlier that day. Between 10:30 p.m. the previous day and 5:45 a.m. that morning, 4 aluminum tables and seats worth an estimated $5,000 were stolen from the intermediate school’s lunch area.
A phone-snatching couple wanted for several crimes in the Claremont area over the last week is finally behind bars. Ashley Peters, 20 and Brian Beauchamp, 22, of Corona, are being held for 2 counts of petty theft and one count of robbery. The first incident took place on Thursday, September 27, near Mills Avenue and Ninth Street. Ms. Peters jumped out of a black Honda Civic and asked to use the victim’s cellphone. When the victim agreed, Ms. Peters got into the car and Mr. Beauchamp drove off.
