Focused enforcement nets 49 arrests

Claremont Police arrested 49 people during four recent directed enforcement details in the 800 block of South Indian Hill Boulevard, according to a news release from the CPD.

After responding to two shootings at the Motel 6, located at 840 S. Indian Hill, and noticing perceived increase in gang activity as well as human trafficking, officers decided to step up enforcement in the area. Forty arrests were made for drug possession or sale and possession of firearms. A prostitution sting in the area resulted in nine additional arrests for solicitation.

Among the 49 arrests police provided details on the following three cases.

On August 27 at 6:50 p.m., officers made a traffic stop on a vehicle on Indian Hill and Auto Center Drive. During the stop, it was determined that a passenger, a 32-year old resident of Pomona, was in possession of heroin, and during a search of the vehicle, approximately a quarter ounce of methamphetamine was also found.

Later that evening at approximately 8 p.m., officers witnessed a possible drug transaction in the parking lot of Motel 6, prompting officers to stop a vehicle as it drove away from the motel. While conducting a parole search, a loaded firearm and methamphetamine were found in the vehicle. A 22-year-old Claremont resident, who was on parole for robbery and is a documented gang member, was arrested for the firearm and drugs.

On September 3 at 11:40 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving Motel 6. The driver, a 29 year-old Pomona resident, was determined to be on probation, and during a search of the vehicle a loaded firearm was found in a hidden compartment inside the glove box. The gun had been reported stolen in Riverside. Over two ounces of methamphetamine was also found.
