DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS TOMORROW It’s time to fall back, with daylight saving time ceding to standard time early tomorrow. Daylight saving time—often (incorrectly) called daylight savings time—will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 6. Daylight saving time in the United States was not intended to benefit farmers, as many people think. In fact, the agriculture industry was deeply opposed to the time switch when it was first implemented on March 31, 1918.

LET ME GO WILD Veteran folk punk band Violent Femmes headline a show at Pomona’s Fox Theater tonight. The Milwaukee-based group has been together since 1981, and released its ninth studio album, We Can Do Anything, earlier this year on PIAS Recordings. LEFTOVER CUTIES AT SCRIPPS: The Leftover Cuties play a free 6:30 p.m. show at Scripps College tonight as part of the school’s ongoing Levitt on the Lawn concert series. Buzzbands called the Cuties “Jazz-pop that’s sweet as pie, but strong as whiskey.” The Los Angeles-based quartet is beloved for its retro-infused tunes backed by upright bass, horns and the occasional accordion.
NUTCRACKER AUDITIONS: Inland Pacific Ballet holds auditions today and tomorrow for all children’s roles for its annual production of The Nutcracker. The auditions will be held at IPB’s studios, located at 5050 Arrow Highway in Montclair. There is a $20 audition fee and additional production and rehearsal fees for those who are offered a role.
The city of Claremont and the Kiwanis Club’s annual free summer Concerts in the Park series continues Monday, August 29 at Memorial Park band shell with local Dixieland jazz band the Night Blooming Jazzmen.
