First CUSD meeting will feature plethora of new activity

The Claremont Unified School District Board of Education will have plenty to vote on during the first school board meeting on 2012 on Thursday.

The appointment of a non-voting student board members, review of the 2010-11 annual financial report, school accountability report cards for 2010-11, revisions to the special education local plan and the public hearing of the CUSD negotiations with the Claremont Faculty Association are just a sample of the many items the board will address beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Richard S. Kirkendall Education Center.

With board approval, San Antonio High School senior TeVin Woods will serve for the next 6 months as the student board member, succeeding Derek Bretzing, who served since last summer. CHS senior Jake Wu had been approved as the CHS board representative for the second semester last August and will also begin his board service Thursday.

CUSD Director of Accounting Karen Waltman and representatives of Certified Public Accounting firm Vavrinek, Trine, Day & Co. will be in attendance on Thursday to answer questions regarding the district’s annual financial report. The report noted that the district’s net assets were $52.1 million for the end of the 2010-11 fiscal year.

The board will vote to approve and officially release school accountability report cards for all of the CUSD schools. The purpose of the report cards are to provide the public and community with information regarding each public school’s progress in reaching its goals. The accountability report cards can be found online at www.cusd.claremont.edu.

Recognition, association rights and organizational security are the 3 items the Claremont Faculty Association has requested to negotiate with the CUSD concerning the 2 entities’ collective bargaining agreement. A public hearing will be held at the meeting regarding the master contract.
