New board members, CHS administrators to make debut at school board meeting

The next meeting of the Claremont Unified School District Board of Education—set for Thursday, December 12 at 6 p.m.—will begin with a changing of the guard as new board members Dave Nemer and Nancy Treser Osgood and newly re-elected board member Steven Llanusa take an oath of office.

Then it will be time to assign leadership roles among the five-member board with the election of a new board president, vice president, clerk and secretary, as well as the designation of the board representative to the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association. The board will also be asked to approve $252 per month for each board member, which represents no increase in compensation from last year.

Another significant change will be made later in the meeting when the board is expected to approve the assignments of two new assistant principals to Claremont High School. They will be replacing replace Anita Arora, who after CUSD’s winter recess will be moving out of the area, and Steven Patterson, who in November left to become assistant principal of Ramona Middle School in La Verne.

The district’s recommendations include Clara Dehmer, principal of Mt. View Elementary School, as well as a new hire. With her last day expected to coincide with CUSD’s winter recess, Ms. Dehmer is working with a current CUSD teacher who will serve as interim vice principal of the elementary school in her absence.

Developments at Mt. View will again figure prominently in the meeting agenda when representatives of the elementary school present its Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), a state-mandated report tracking a school’s progress towards goals set out last year and outlining its latest priorities. A presentation of El Roble Intermediate School’s SPSA will follow.
