Freeway close to Claremont

It's been almost 20 years since the 210 freeway was built to come right through north Claremont, right along Base Line Road. Unlike other freeways that sometimes need years to build up traffic, the 210 freeway was an instant hit with drivers living east of Los Angeles. The 210 is 85 miles long, with the west end starting in Sylmar. Claremont is located at the 52 mile marker as the freeway heads east before emptying out in Redlands and the 10 freeway. Claremont city officials were concerned about the impact from noise and pollution from the freeway, which is one reason why the 210 dips below ground when headed through the city limits.
