Tuesday, December 12

A Corona man was arrested for burglary and prowling in a Scripps College dorm. Police received a call just after 4 a.m. from a student who claimed 20-year-old Gaven Hughes was in her dorm room, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. Police located Mr. Hughes, and an investigation revealed he was detained earlier in the night for misappropriation of property and had a key to the dorms given to him by an unidentified student. He was arrested for burglary, possession of stolen property and prowling.

Thursday, December 14

A local transient was arrested after running away from police. Around 11:10 a.m., a witness called police to report that Anthony Cole, 32, was masturbating in the Claremont Library. He left when officers arrived, but he was found in front of the parking structure at Columbia Avenue and First Street. As police approached, Mr. Cole ran into the parking structure, but he was subsequently found and arrested.

Allen Perez was once again arrested for public intoxication. Officers were called to Memorial Park around 3:19 p.m. after a caller stated he was offering alcohol to people in the park, according to police logs. Officers found Mr. Perez, 44, from Pomona, sitting on steps in the park, and determined he was too drunk to remain in public. Mr. Perez has been arrested 38 times for public intoxication in the city of Claremont.

Another car was broken into at the Evey Canyon turnout. Around 4:30 p.m., an unidentified thief broke a passenger window of the victim’s car and took a backpack containing a purse, an iPhone, currency and credit cards. All told, the value of the stolen goods was more than $500.

A Pomona man was arrested after trying to flee a DUI arrest. Police pulled over a car driven by 27-year-old Gerald Pierce near the intersection of Indian Hill Boulevard and Auto Center Drive around 9:40 p.m. After a field sobriety test, police determined Mr. Pierce was drunk. As he was about to be arrested, Mr. Pierce tried to run away from the scene, but was quickly caught by police. A brief scuffle ensued, but nobody was injured. Mr. Pierce was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest.

Friday, December 15

A Pomona man was arrested for public intoxication after he was found passed out in the middle of Indian Hill Boulevard. Police found 22-year-old Juilyon Swift in the roadway near Santa Fe Street around 2 a.m., Lt. Walters said. Mr. Swift admitted he had too much to drink, and thought he was in Montclair. He was arrested and spent the night at the CPD jail to detox before he was released without charges.

Saturday, December 16

A Duarte man was arrested after he was caught driving a stolen car. Police found the car, which was reported stolen on December 14 from Pomona, near the intersection of Bonita and Garey Avenues, and stopped the car at Towne and Scripps Avenues, Lt. Walters said. The driver, 27-year-old Aries McDaniels, was arrested without incident on charges of grand theft auto, possession of stolen property, driving with a suspended license and for being in possession of painkillers.

Sunday, December 17

A Claremont man was arrested after he was found lying on a sidewalk. Officers found 20-year-old Joshua Meza near the intersection of Arrow Highway and Villanova Drive just before 3 a.m., and determined he was too drunk to remain in public. Mr. Meza was arrested for public intoxication, spent the night in jail and was released without charges.

Monday, December 18

A Gucci wallet, a dress and an iPhone charger were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on the 900 block of west Arrow Highway. Around 3:30 p.m., an unknown thief entered the car and took the goods, which were valued at $1,300.

A father and son were both arrested after police found and illegal gun, ammo and drug paraphernalia. An officer patrolling the Claremont Promenade shopping center around 4 a.m. noticed two men peering into T-Mobile at 415 Auto Center Drive. When the officer pulled the car over, the occupants of the car, 48-year-old Frank Montanez Sr. of El Monte and 25-year-old Frank Montanez Jr., told police they were looking for a place to use the restroom. A subsequent search of the Montanez car yielded a sawed-off 22-caliber rifle and ammunition, which the elder Mr. Montanez could not be in possession of due to a felony on his record. The younger Mr. Montanez initially gave a false name to officers, and was in possession of a drug pipe. Both father and son were arrested and transported to CPD jail.

A Claremont man was arrested for running away from police during a routine check. Officers patrolling the area at 965 west Arrow Highway approached a group of four men who were congregating at the northwest portion of the property around 3:30 p.m. When police arrived, the men scattered. One of them, 28-year-old Mohammad Alrazaa, was arrested for obstructing and resisting and was taken to CPD jail, where he was released with a citation.
